College of Menominee Nation encourages all students to apply for financial aid. If you do not apply, you will not know if you qualify. With some funding agencies, it may not be required that you qualify for federal aid but required that you apply, by submitting the FAFSA application. It is extremely important that you start your financial aid application process as soon as you know that you will be attending College of Menominee Nation. Students who have complete applications and files will be considered preferred students and their financial aid will be processed first. *Some grants are offered on a first come first served basis, so apply early. To apply for federal and state financial aid, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) every year. This form can be obtained at any high school or university. You can also complete it online at: www.fafsa.ed.gov . To ensure that College of Menominee Nation receives the results of your FAFSA and processes your financial aid you must enter CMN’s Federal School Code of 031251. Those students seeking Tribal Education Funding must submit an Indian Scholarship Application, along with any other required paperwork, to their Tribal Higher Education Office each year they are seeking aid. Q. Who is eligible to receive financial aid? A student must be an eligible citizen or permanent resident of the United States and have a valid Social Security Number. A student must have a high school diploma or a General Education Development certificate (GED). A student must be accepted, admitted, and be making satisfactory academic progress in an eligible degree program. Special Students and non-degree seeking students are not eligible for financial aid. A student must be free from student loan default and/or owing a refund on a previous student grant Financial need must be demonstrated for need based programs. Q. Do I need parent information and signature? If you answered “NO” to ALL of the eight questions in SECTION 2 – STUDENT DEPENDENCY STATUS of the FAFSA application, then you must provide parental information and a signature. There is a Dependency Appeal process; however, only appeals with well-documented parental estrangement are considered for approval. Being financially independent of your parents does not allow you to be independent for financial aid purposes. Contact CMN Financial Aid Office with questions or further instructions. Q. What is a Student Aid Report (SAR)? The Student Aid Report (SAR) is a report of the information you provided on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You should review this information carefully for accuracy. If it is correct, do not send it back (if you received your SAR via mail) keep it for your records. If you find incorrect information or you originally used estimated information and need to report actual figures, make your changes on the mailed SAR or online with your PIN at the www.fafsa.ed.gov website – Step 3 FAFSA Follow-Up. It is important that you also read the comments entered on your SAR by the U.S. Dept. of Education.
