Federal Work Study Information
Federal Work Study Program (FWS) is a Federal Financial Aid Program designed to provide eligible students the opportunity to earn money to help pay educational expenses as well as educational learning by hands-on experience. Students who demonstrate financial need, based on their FAFSA analysis are hired to work part-time, 20 hours per week limit, while classes are in session. Currently, students earn $7.00 per hour – rate is for all FWS positions.
Student Eligibility for FWS Program:
1. Have a financial remaining need
2. Enrolled for a min. of 6 credits
3. If a continuing student, has a cum.GPA of 2.00
FWS positions are announced to students via CMN’s e-mail and job descriptions are posted outside the F.A. Office or at the Green Bay Campus.

Job Descriptions – Complete a job description for posting on the bulletin board outside the FA Office or at the G.B. Site. Positions will be posted a minimum of three days.

Steps for Hiring:
1) F.A.O. initials application for eligible student or OKs via phone call or email G.B. student.
2) Student will turn application into appropriate supervisor listed.
3) Supervisor interviews / recommends hire pending HR approval.
4) Supervisor and chosen student complete, sign and turn into F.A.O. Work –Study Contract.
5) Student, along with their contract and award letter (showing FWS amount) report to HR to complete additional paperwork for hiring.
6) HR will email supervisor and student of official start date – student may not start before HR approval.
Wage / Hours:
All work study positions pay $7.50 per hour. Students are limited to work 20 hours per when classes are in session.
FWS Information
Time Sheet:
Students and supervisors are responsible for keeping track of hours / amount of funds remaining. STUDENT CAN NOT WORK OVER AWARDED AMOUNT. Hours remaining should be noted on each Time Sheet. Same rules apply for turning in FWS Time Sheets as all CMN employees follow.
Length of Employment:
Student may work thru the end of term if their funded amount permits. Supervisors, if you will not be using the full amount available to your dept.-let the FAO know so we can distribute funds to those who may request more. We need to fully utilize the amount of funding CMN is granted to ensure future funding amounts.
Evaluations / Name Badges:
Identifying student as a CMN Work Study Student are now available. Badges must be returned to the FAO at the end of employment along with the student’s evaluation Form. Evaluation forms and Time Sheets can be photo copied from the FWS Handbook.
Dept. Amounts:
Each term the FAO will determine FWS dept. budget amounts based off total FWS funds granted to CMN by the U.S. Dept. of ED. and the number of CMN depts. requesting FWS students.
* Due to limited FWS Funds, work study requests must be approved by the Financial Aid Director.
