CMN Updates on H1N1

H1N1 Virus Information

Dear CMN Students, Faculty, and Staff
Flu can be spread easily from person to person. We are taking steps to prevent the spread of flu at the College of Menominee Nation, but we need your help.

CMN is working with local health departments to monitor flu conditions and make decisions that will help keep everyone well. We will keep you updated as information becomes available. Keep checking this site for updates.

We are doing all we can to keep classes and offices operating as usual. Here are a few things you can do to help:

  • Practice good hand hygiene. Wash your hands with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing. Alcohol-based hand cleaners with at least 60% ethyl alcohol also are effective.

  • Practice respiratory etiquette. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your elbow or shoulder, not into your hands.  Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth; germs are spread this way.

  • Know signs and symptoms of the flu. Fever (usually above 100.4 degrees F); Headache; Extreme tiredness; Dry cough; Sore throat; Runny or stuffy nose; Muscle aches; and/or Stomach symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, also can occur but are more common in children than adults.

  • Stay home if you have flu or flu-like illness for at least 24 hours after you no longer have a fever. This should be determined without the use of fever-reducing medications (any medicine that contains ibuprofen or acetaminophen).  Do not go to class or work. Report your illness to our Confidential H1N1 Reporting Site by phone at 715-799-6226 ext.4161 (or ext.H1N1) or electronically by clicking on the link on this page.

  • Get vaccinated for H1N1 and seasonal flu when the vaccines become available. If you have other medical conditions consult with your physician for advice before receiving the vaccines.
