Pow Wow & Feast
In 2004, the College of Menominee Nation held its first pow wow and feast at the Menominee Tribal School in Neopit, WI. Initiated by and for students, the inaugural pow wow committee consisted of CMN students Jessica Van Zile, Shane Webster, Georgia Frechette, Steve Quasis, and Yvonne Woyt. Myrna Warrington and Orman Waukau advised students as they raised funds, held raffles, sought donations, and invited drums, student head dancers, and student arena directors to the event.
From the beginning and continuing today, the CMN student pow wow enjoys the support of the tribes representative of our student body including Menominee, Oneida, Stockbridge-Munsee, Potawatomi, and Mohican. Organizations and businesses such as the Wisconsin Indian Education Association, Menominee Casino, Bingo, and Hotel, Wilber Fireworks, the Shawano Chamber of Commerce, Hill Stop, Body Essentials and many more offer support through their generous donations. The Menominee Veterans Association is especially appreciated for their flag staff during grand entry. In the months leading up to the pow wow, a community-wide event held each April, CMN students, faculty, and staff work to ensure an evening that honors and celebrates our students and higher education.
Make sure to attend the next CMN student pow wow…we promise, it will be fun, rewarding, and memorable.
