Assist in the development and delivery of training programs that will meet the needs of community members. Focus upon strengthening the work force with emphasis on economic development of the communities served. Conduct research of prospective grant opportunities that will contribute and support the efforts of the department to promote ant ability of the College to better serve the community. Also serve as the College’s liaison with community organizations, tribal, Federal or State agencies to ensure successful completion of projects.

Title IX Coordinator 2001-2001

Bowler School District

Managed and coordinated the Title IX formula grant for Indian Education. Developed and assisted in the implementation of education programs to improve the academic success among the Native American students in the Bowler School District. The position also served as a liaison between the Bowler school district and the Stockbridge-Munsee Tribe. Served as an advocate for tribal students in need of additional educational assistance. Provided supplemental education assistance for tribal students as a tutor for grades 3-12 in math, language arts, and reading. Assisted fifth and sixth grade teachers to provide more one-on-one in-class help for tribal students. Wrote annual grant, and sought additional funding to provide after school programs.

Archaeological Assistant 2000-2001

Historic Resource Management Services-University Wisconsin Milwaukee

Assisted in phase I and II of archaeological fieldwork. Conducted walkover reconnaissance surveys, shovel test surveys, and excavation for Department of Transportation projects in Door County, Wisconsin. Required a working knowledge of Historic Preservation Act, Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act, and Archaeological Resource Protection Act. Excavated artifacts and organic materials for laboratory examination, using standard procedures established by the Wisconsin State Historical Society: Archaeological Guidelines.

Preservation Planner 1997-2000

Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin, Keshena, WI

Assisted the Director of Historic Preservation Department in all aspects of the tribal preservation program. Wrote grant to provide the funding necessary in developing a Cultural Resource Management Plan for the Tribe. Designed, developed, and drafted plan, which gave the Menominee Tribe jurisdiction over the identification and protection of cultural resources within the exterior boundaries of the Menominee Indian Reservation. This plan established a Tribal Historic Preservation Office recognized by the National Park Service. This plan empowered the tribe to protect and interpret Menominee cultural resources from a Menominee perspective. Served as a liaison between the Menominee Tribe and all federal or state agencies involved in undertakings with the potential to impact Menominee cultural resources.

Drafted memorandums of agreement, and memorandums of understanding between Menominee Tribe and federal or state agencies in order to preserve and protect cultural resources important to the Menominee Tribe. Served as an alternate for the Menominee Tribe on the Wisconsin Intertribal Repatriation Committee, a group of all federally recognized tribes in Wisconsin, as well as tribes from Oklahoma, Iowa, and Minnesota that had once lived in Wisconsin. The purpose of this committee was to establish policies and procedures locating a central property and appropriate funeral procedure to repatriate and rebury all Native American unidentified human remains and funerary objects originating from Wisconsin.

Drafted the policy and procedures for the repatriation of all human remains and funerary objects (associated and unassociated) affiliated to the Menominee Tribe. Assisted the Preservation Director on all aspects of the first repatriations and reburials of Menominee people from regional museums and historical societies. Assisted Bureau of Indian Affairs archeologist in training tribal forestry workers as paraprofessionals in basic archaeological identification and compliance with Tribal and Federal law. Required strong working knowledge of the Historic Preservation Act, Archaeological Resource Protection Act, and Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act.

Writer/Researcher

Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin 1995-1997

Wrote and disseminated press releases for the Menominee Tribe. Assisted the Communications Director in setting up all official tribal press conferences and media contacts. Assisted videographer with all aspects of video work done for the Communications Department. Included working on digital video editing (FAST), and script writing for video work. Served as a technician with the department’s digital video editing software and computer-based program. Assisted in the production of three videotapes for the tribe documenting the Menominee Treaty Rights lawsuit, the Menominee Sturgeon Feast, and a short work demonstrating the actions completed by Tribal Government from 1995-1996. Developed scripts and assisted in production of a series of public service announcements for both radio and television distribution. Served as a liaison between Communications Department and all State and Federal agencies involved with the proposed Crandon Mine Project.
