Position Summary: The College of Menominee Nation is looking for an ambitious Junior Accountant that will provide support to the financial department by managing and tracking Grants Receivable and payroll accounting tasks. You will be a part of a team of professionals working to maintain order and transparency for the company's finances. Preparing financial statements and reporting are a large part of the Junior Accountant's day-to-day work. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in accounting principles and able to work comfortably with numbers and attention to detail. The goal is to contribute to the overall efficient operation of the department and help the company be fully aware of its financial condition. This way it can make the right decisions and accomplish long term success.

Position Responsibilities & Duties:

  1. Accounting
    1. Assist with reviewing of expenses, payroll records etc. as assigned.
    2. Post and process journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded.
    3. Update accounts receivable and issue invoices.
    4. Calculate and process weekly draws for grants that allow draws.
    5. Assist with accounts payable and perform reconciliations.
  2. Reporting
    1. Assist in the processing of balance sheets, income statements and other financial statements according
      to legal and company accounting and financial guidelines
    2. Update financial data in databases to ensure that information will be accurate and immediately
      available when needed
    3. Prepare and submit quarterly and annual financial reports to granting agencies
    4. Assist Accountants in the preparation of monthly/yearly closings
  3. Risk Management and Compliance
    1. Monitor Grant budgets, and spending for unallowable costs insuring compliance with granting agency
    2. Run monthly Grant budgets
    3. Assist with other Accounting Projects
  4. Other duties as assigned for the overall success of the college.

  1. Education
    1. Associates degree with course work in Accounting or Business Administration supplemented by three (3) years of experience in accounting which includes working in an accounting system (preferably Financial Edge). Or, an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Knowledge in MS Excel and Word.
  2. Experience
    1. Five to seven years of experience in an office setting, with at least three years in higher education.
  3. Certificates and Licenses - None

Reporting to this Position: No Direct Reports

Physical Demands & Work Environment:
Physical demands are classified as Light -lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds, with frequent walking, standing or sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls.
