Resources for Online Learning

How Online classes work:

The College of Menominee Nation will offer online courses as of Fall 2024. Classes held online are completely asynchronous, meaning that students are not required to meet at a scheduled time; however, due dates for course materials will be required. With asynchronous online courses, students can log in and complete assignments at a time that is convenient for them.

All online classes are offered in the same terms as in-person courses and will be considered one of the following:

  • Session 1 Course: 15 weeks
  • Session 2 Course: First 7.5 weeks
  • Session 3 Course: Second 7.5 weeks

All online classes follow the Central Time Zone (CT) for defining the start and end of a week within the term and for scheduled due dates, withdrawal dates, and other deadlines.

Students should refer to the Academic Calendar for important deadlines and events.

Technical Requirements for Online learning:

Students need to have regular access to the internet on a personal computer, tablet, or other device that meets the following technical requirements for online courses:

Browsers

Windows/Mac/Other:

  • Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, or Opera.
  • A specific web browser listed above may be required for some courses.
  • Your browser must be on a version released within the past 6 months.
  • Downloads available online for all browsers.

Additionally, browser settings should be set to the following:

  • Cookies must be enabled.
  • JavaScript must be enabled.

Office Software

Many classes will require the use of Microsoft Office. Students enrolled at CMN have free access to Office 365, which can be downloaded here using their CMN email account. The IT department can assist with installation if there are any technical issues. Office must be installed before beginning coursework.

Hardware

The computer used for coursework might need a webcam and/or microphone; please contact your instructor to find out.

Computer Failure/Crashes and Internet Connectivity

Computer Failures/Crashes and Internet Connectivity are not valid reasons for late coursework. The college provides on-campus computer accessibility to all students. For those not near campus, free wireless internet can be found in emergency situations at locations such as restaurants and public libraries. The only exception to this policy is a region-wide electrical outage.
